Track & XC Portal Recruiting Score Calculator FAQ

Track & XC Portal Recruiting Score Calculator FAQ

Check out some of the most frequently asked questions about the Track & XC Portal Recruiting Score Calculator!

How do you get the scores?

We created a formula to calculate scores based on personal bests. We do not use factors like state champion, national meet qualifier or any other accolade. It is 100% time based and does not take into account any other factors.

What do you use when calculating the scores?

When calculating scores the only things we use are your personal bests and gender. There are no other factors used to calculate scores.

Why is the calculator not public?

Our recruiting score calculator was originally developed to be used by us and not the public. Due to this, only one person can use the calculator at a time, preventing us from releasing it to the public. We are currently developing a calculator for public use and should be published shortly!

Do you take grade or age into account when calculating scores?

No, we do not take grade or age into account when calculating scores. This is something we hope to add when we release Version 2 of our Recruiting Score Calculator!

Do you use GPA when calculating scores?

No, our formula is completely time based and does not adjust for GPA.

Does the calculator support field events?

No, the current version of our Recruiting Score Calculator does not support field events. This is something we plan to add when we release Version 2!

I am ranked highly in my state for my event. Why am I not a 5-Star?

Our formula is completely time based and does not use any state or national rankings to determine recruiting score.

Why are distance athlete not fairly rated?

We believe that our formula fairly evaluates athletes across all track events. However, it may appear that fewer distance athletes receive 4 or 5-star ratings compared athletes in other events. This is because our formula is made to project how an athlete will compete at the collegiate level, rather than focusing solely on their high school success.

In distance events, a significant percentage of collegiate athletes come from countries other than the United States. This creates a larger talent pool and increases competition for roster spots. As a result, there may be fewer U.S. high school distance runners with 4 or 5-star ratings when compared to other events.

While this still happens in other events like sprints or hurdles, it generally does not happen to the same extent as distance events.

I already graduated high school and want to know what my recruiting score would have been. Would it be accurate?

The formula was made for the current state of high school and collegiate running. Someone who already graduated would have likely had a higher score if the calculator was made for when they were in high school.

When is Version 2 going to be released?

Though the exact date is not set yet, we are currently planning on releasing it early this summer!
