"Stop Pre" Sticker
"Stop Pre" Sticker
Steve Prefontaine competed at the University of Oregon and was one of the most influential running figures of the 1970's where he became iconic for his racing style of "front-running". During that time he won seven NCAA Titles, achieved 4th place in the 1972 Olympic 5k and broke every American record from the 2,000m to the 10,000m.
At the 1972 US Olympic Trials the phrase "Go Pre" came to popularity in support of Steve Prefontaine. Someone then had the idea to create a t-shirt that said "Stop Pre". Following the race Steve Prefontaine was shown wearing the Stop Pre t-shirt in photos and the phrase has remained iconic to runners everywhere.
